Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. People who don't understand the name mistakenly believe that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact, this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of Lachine. Lachine. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is frequently referred to as her birthplace. However, she only stayed there for a short time. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. In her early years, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. As I grew older than my male companions, I quit. Many dancers make the transition to acting. As for the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her in that direction. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. She auditioned and eventually got the lead of Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on the big and small screens drawing the most interest when she was offered the role in the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
